Active since April 2022.
Working with the encaustic (beeswax painting) technique, Yunoki produces abstract works distinguished by warm, soft color palettes and tranquil surfaces with blurred contours. By suppressing contrast, the works emphasize texture and presence, encouraging viewers to perceive the surface not as a “painting” but as an “object” that exists in space.
The works convey no explicit message, instead inviting viewers to engage with them in the calm, receptive manner one might bring to natural landscapes. They aim to create meditative spaces where the mind can be quieted, free from overthinking, and open to experiencing the work simply as “something that is there.”
Inspired by encountering Mark Rothko’s paintings at the DIC Kawamura Memorial Museum of Art, Yunoki continues to develop a practice under the theme of “meditative paintings.”
Solo exhibitions have been held at sou and Unomachi Coffee Shop.

I picked up a dead leaf.
I picked up a dead leaf.
Looking at the dead leaf in my hand,
a critic said, “It’s blue.”
I felt a deep sense of fear.
Because what I picked up was a dead leaf.
